La Llorona

The legend “La Llorona” has been part of folklore through many generations.  Extensive research about the story indicate that it originated in Germany and made its way to Latin America with the Spanish Conquistadors.  The legend eventually made its way to North America.  Although the basic story is fairly consistent, there are variations that appeared in different parts of the world.  These variations around the world reflect the values and sometimes the social turmoil these communities were experiencing at the time.  These changes are important and reflect the concerns and apprehensions of the people relating the story.
